Although we started the day in Barra, we didn't actually start cycling until we reached Inhambane. After an enjoyable last night with Dennis, we arrived back in Inhambane at about 7:30am, quickly grabbed some fruit from the market and were reunited with our bikes at Pensao Pachica. While we waited for breakfast we bid a very fond farewell to Dennis and got to say goodbye to Yasser and Zafrana. We have had a terrific time on the coast, but it was time to get back to some serious cycling.
Leaving Inhambane was easy and we were soon riding through the rolling, palm tree covered countryside. Despite our best efforts to leave early and avoid the heat we failed. The temperature here may not be as high as it has been at certain points during the trip, but the higher humidity makes it just as difficult. Nevertheless we made good progress and soon rejoined the main road that would eventually lead us to Maputo.
From then onwards it was a fairly straightforward day. The road was at times steeper than we had expected and the wind was quite strong for a while, but we continued to get along well.
By about 3:30pm we were heading into the the town of Inharrime, bound for 'Jolly Rogers' (which had been suggested as a place to stay by Dennis). Occasionally you stumble upon a gem of a place and Jolly Rogers is definitely one of them. The South African owners are terrific, we have been given a full list of places to stay as we head south, the food was great and the rooms are really nice.
We have even been offered a lift to Chidenguele, which would have taken us two days to get to, by one of the customers, Hannes. The plan has obviously been to cycle as much as possible, but a free ride cutting out a nights accommodation is too good to miss! Off to bed now for an early night, we have an early start tomorrow.
